A long overdue addition to the Music City Unsigned family is Pittsburgh native and Banana aficionado, Steve Moakler.
When he's not eating his vegetables or enjoying his fruit of choice, Steve is cooking up pop hooks that reveal his innate knack for writing songs that stick in your head like happy memories. His "Like I Mean It" EP kicks off with "False Alarms," one of those perfectly written, performed and produced pop songs that lets you listen over and over and over and never grow tired of it. Isn't that what pop music is meant for anyway? Apparently, Steve already has that figured out.
Then comes the beautifully moving narrative "18" that sounds like a musical cross between the Fray and Mat Kearney. "18" showcases Steve's skills as a descriptive writer that had me closing my eyes envisioning a video of "the little girl in a bigger world turning upside-down." This is a four minute coming-of-age movie of heartache and hope that shows us why in life "our faith is placed in second chances."
The EP closes out with the driving catchiness of "Where You Belong" that further solidifies Steve as a master pop craftsman who wants "to make your world go round." If he keeps putting out songs like this, he couldn't have a better chance of succeeding at that goal.
On "False Alarms," Steve sings "it's the world you hold in your hands." A mature artist at a young age, Steve already holds a world of music in his hands, and one can only wonder what those hands will cook up next as his career progresses.
Steve's motto for "Like I Mean It" is "music more enjoyable while eating a banana." Now, that's reason enough to eat your fruits and vegetables kids!
