If you're looking for a great indie-folk-rock sound, the Apache Relay will more than satisfy. With acoustic and electric layers as well as a blend of mandolin and violins, the team of Michael Ford Jr., Mike Harris, Brett Moore, and Kellen Wenrich soulfully jam out beautiful melodies and bittersweet harmonies. And at their live shows, you're sure to see these guys pour their passion into their music with such energy that the crowd has no choice but to give in to the sheer talent of Ford and the gang.
Before the Apache Relay was what it is today, Ford Jr. was known around the Belmont scene for his folk-rock writing. He was introduced to Mike Harris, and the two would rock out to Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Harris provided the connection with Moore and Wenrich, and the group was formed. With different backgrounds from each player - from jazz to mountain music (of all things) - the collaboration of each one's expertise creates a distinctive sound that just plain easy to listen to.
The group's first album, 1988, has been incredibly well received. Paste Magazine named the album an "Auspicious Debut of 2009," and highlighted the band as the "Best of What's Next." The songs Sugarcane and Sweet Louisianne are from the album, with musical guests Jessica Lea Mayfield, Joe Kwon and Byron House.... take a listen and see why the group is getting so much attention.
Michael Ford Jr. and the Apache Relay has been back and forth between the studio and the road, laying down the groundwork for its next album as well as touring the current material. Be sure you catch these guys in the process - with the amount of talent and passion of the group, you'll no doubt be blown away by the experience they create!
